Dear Family,
Spring finally sprung this week! We enjoyed the sunshine immensely during our recesses. At the art table during centers, we created spring scenes with watercolors, tissue paper, oil pastels and more. We also wrote stories about things we see in the spring! Our scientists carried on several investigations at the science center this week. Rocks were the center of our explorations as we asked questions and tested several hypotheses. Our science notebook is full of facts (versus opinion). Next week, isopods arrive and will be the center of our science studies. The children’s writing skills are emerging daily. Writing with a purpose in our science notebooks give us practice and joy as we can share what we know through writing facts about our studies. In math, our numbers continue to grow daily! Today was the 116th day of school! We have been decomposing 6 this week with both addition and subtraction. Also, building teen numbers and number writing continue to be a focus. Number stories at home, or in the car, are a great way to help your child to begin to visual addition and subtraction stories. i.e . There were 6 snails on the log. 3 crawled away. How many are left? Teaching point: What type of math are we doing when the question has left in it. Subtraction! Enjoy the warm weekend ahead!!! Taylor
