Dear Family,
What a wonderful “gentle” start we’ve had our first week together! The children are enjoying peaceful moments as they explore the classroom and understand how we respect our tools and each other. Learning our way around our big school has been exciting and fun, too. Their excitement and enthusiasm about their new environment is always exhilarating for me as their teacher. One of the activities your child is bringing home in his/her Friday folder is a song/little book titled “Five Little Monkeys”. We chanted, acted out, signed, and read this poem many times this week. One of the first steps to reading is becoming familiar with text or print through a song or a chant. Look for lots of these little books to come home, collect and save these treasures in a shoe box or container, and enjoy your child “reading” and “chanting” them to you all year long! Your “emergent” reader will be proud! In the spirit of thematic teaching, we extended monkeys through literature, art and yes, cooking too! The children came prepared with a healthy lunch and water. Peanut free is preferred as we are aware of the growing concerns more children are challenged with this life-threatening allergy. Thank you for taking the time to plan and prepare a nutritious snack for your child. “Growing food” is the best for learning! PARENT VOLUNTEERS FOR CENTERS START THIS TUESDAY. THANK YOU TO THOSE PARENTS FOR COMMITTING TO OUR CLASSROOM WHICH WILL BECOME THE MOST REWARDING PART OF YOUR WEEK!! Please let ME know soon if you are available to volunteer in the classroom on a routine basis which will begin on Sept. 2nd. I love and depend on our parent helpers. So do my students. Only with your help, can we work together to create small group instruction which is researched based the best possible way to learn, understand and create new ideas. Please consider volunteering in our room on a regular basis from 9:45 to 10:35. You will love it and so will your child! I am hoping to collect all of your email addresses asap to create a class email. PLEASE let me know if you prefer NOT to receive class emails from me. And, enclosed in this Friday folder are a couple more papers that need your signature. Whew! Too much paperwork. So sorry!!! Thanks for helping my start be wonderful too. Have a lovely, restful 3 day weekend!
